Family Drama Avoided

The past almost 24 hrs have sucked!

It started with G-man calling me at work (which he NEVER does unless something big is going on).  So when I saw his number pop up, my first thought was something major broke at home (as it was his day off).  I wasn't worried about the kids because my number is the primary number, so if a kid was sick or hurt, they would call me first.

Turns out that G-man's uncle (by marriage) took his own life.  In a horrific, violent way.

I won't go into all the details because I would be writing a novel.  Suffice it to say that everything took WTF to a whole new level.

Our first inclination was to go down for the "whatever they were having" because the "whatever" was an issue in itself.  At one point it was looking like the "whatever" was going to be at my mother-in-law's house, and everything was going to get dumped on her.

The whole day was spent trying to figure everything out.

By 6:30pm when I got home, my stance on the situation (and please believe me....the level of drama was HIGH at this point, and there was stuff we didn't even find out about until 2 hrs later) was that none of us go, we send fruit/flowers, and be done.  G-man was not close to the deceased, or the widow, we were looking at $300 to drive there, a complete upheaval of other things.  And in all honesty, I had a HUGE concern about things that might happen while we were there (violent things).

G-man was having a hard time with not going (enter family obligation), but was ok with the kids and I not going.  However, when he spoke to his mom at 8:30pm, and the first thing she said was "don't come; you don't need to be part of all of this drama," he felt better.

Some of the highlights of the afternoon included the widow and the deceased's mother fighting at the funeral home, ending in a big ole "eff you" in the parking lot, arguments over who is paying for this, and all of their "surprise" that they would not be getting the life insurance policy (because if you intentionally take your own life, it voids the policy).

So today....I will order an arrangement, send it on its way, and wait to hear what other horrible things happen.  From what has happened already, it sounds like it will be jaw dropping.

I have a whole different type of drama on my side of the family.....G-man's family (and as we are finding out, in-laws) are just Bat $hit Crazy.

  2. Geez... that's horrible, but more so all these people making a fool out of themselves and continuing the drama. Some never learn. I think you all made the right decision by not going.

  3. I'm sorry that you're going through this. Family drama is very draining.

  4. Send some cash instead of flowers unless you did it already.
They may need the cash to bury him.
No idea which of them need the cash to bury him given the conflict in the parking lot.
