Well Hey There, Murphy!

My old chum!

The main TV set has gone to the big electronics store in the sky.  Right after we moved, our other TV was giving us problems....but a $20 thingy fixed it and we were back in business.  No such luck with this TV.

In reality, it had been showing signs that it was nearing the end (it is almost 9 yrs old).  Nothing we couldn't live with.  But last night....one hour before Shark Week....the picture went black, then came back on but pixelated, then normal, and just kept repeating that cycle (each cycle was about 30 sec).  We thought it was the cable.....reset boxes, called them.

They sent someone out this morning to look at it, in case it was a signal issue.  Nope....signal was good.  He tried to swap out the box.....nope.  It was the TV.

The good news is that G-man just had 12 hours of OT, and he recently got a small bonus at work.  We hadn't planned on using this money on a TV, but we will have enough to get it.  We will definitely be getting a larger unit...32" ain't what it used to be.  Otherwise...not sure.  We have really liked our LG, so there is a good chance we will get another.

The TV lived a relatively long electronics life....9 years.  We had been watching this particular model for awhile and bought it on sale.....3 months after we lost our girls.  It was part of the Christmas spending spree that year when I was trying to feel better.

In the meantime....we have our Old Faithful in the bedroom.  It will due for a few days.

We decided against getting one from Craigslist or Offer Up.  Mostly because we would have no recourse if it crapped out.  If we were getting an extra TV or were desperate....maybe we would feel differently.  But we will be getting something new.

Anyone get a new TV lately????

  1. I got mine at Target. It was a samsung and I had a cartwheel. Look for unadvertised sales in the store. It was under $200.

  2. We bought one at Best Buy right after the new models came out (this seems to coincide with just before football season) They try to reduce inventory of the older models and we found a bargain then, but I don't remember the exact amount. It was not an advertised sale and of course they wanted us to buy the new fancier model. Didn't happen!

    1. We are fine with last year's model. I think we just need to go shopping. Of course, I work evenings now....so G-man may end up on his own.

  3. We bought a Vizio(sp?) around January...NEVER will we buy anything from them again. They don't use traditional delivery services so that was a hassel and then dealing with a warranty issue had me spending hours upon hours on the phone repeating "we haven't even owned this TV for 30 days".

Even though it's an inconvenience, I'm glad things have leveled out a bit for you guys and the biggest issue is a new TV. 😁

    1. You are absolutely right....the TV is small potatoes compared to some of the things that have happened.

G-man tends to like LG, Samsung, and some Sony TVs. He seems to be leaning towards LG. Never owned a Vizio.....thanks for sharing your experience. What a PITA.

  4. Our last two TVs have been Samsung. I highly recommend the brand. One TV is still going strong 10 years later and the most recent one is 6 years old. I purchased both on Amazon.

    1. We actually leaning toward a Samsung. It is last year's model, which is fine. Glad you have had a good experience with them.

  5. We got a 57inch Sanyo earlier this year, biggest tv we've ever had and cheaper than many smaller tvs. We bought it from Best Buy because they offered 6 months same as cash, free delivery and set up. It had to go upstairs to our tv room and I knew I didn't want to help carry it up there.
The only complaint we have and we were warned about this, football action doesn't show as well on this tv as others, it gets a little blurry. You get use to it.
