Why the person "in charge" can't get sick

Everyone gets sick at some point.  And when that happens, I usually need help.  See, I can't just get the sniffles.  I usually will get some illness that makes me bed bound for several days.  This time is no exception.

I started getting sick on Friday, and by Saturday afternoon, I was in bed with a fever of 102.  Sunday morning I "knew" it was strep throat, and dragged my sick arse out of bed to go to the walk in clinic.  This was the first time I had seen the downstairs since Saturday morning.  OH GOOD GRACIOUS. Putting the disaster aside, I went to the doctor, confirmed that yes, I had strep.  Went to the grocery store and pharmacy across the street, and dragged myself home.  By Sunday afternoon, even with several doses of Tylenol and Advil, my fever was up to 103.8.  If it hit 104, I was going to call the doctor again.  Luckily, it didn't.

G-man took the night off of work last night to deal with me and the kids.

I am home from work today....feeling better than yesterday, but still not ready for a work day.  I brought work home with me, so I will do that from the confines of the couch.  I can't lay in bed anymore because 1) I had to wash the mattress pad this morning, because I got the night sweats last night and soaked my jammies, sheet, and mattress pad...so that stuff is in the wash, and 2)  we have a memory foam mattress, and I discovered that the foam really does "soften" when it is warm, so running a fever has made it extra squishy.

I am fighting the urge to deal with the disaster I am calling my house right now.  My girlfriend is coming in THREE days, and I need to be better.  As hard as it is....I am going to have to let the state of my house go.  She loves me for me...and she isn't coming to judge my house.  I will do the best I can by then to have it in passable state, but today is not the day to do it.

There is stuff covering every flat surface we have.  Stuff falling over.  Christmas stuff is still up (G-man took the ornaments off the big tree on Saturday, but didn't take the lights off yet). Dishes in the sink.  G-man wrote all sorts of "wrong" numbers in the checkbook (for example, he wrote down the amount we "saved" using our loyalty card, vs how much we spent).

I paid a bill on-line this morning, and realized AFTER I hit send, I screwed up.  I have to wait for him to come home to call them...as I am barely understandable (I still have my tonsils, and they are so swollen they are touching, which is screwing up my voice).  I don't think I would have made the mistake if I was well.

I am waiting for the washing machine to stop so I can get a shower, and hopefully the Tylenol and Penicillin I took at 8am will kick in soon.  I have PTA stuff I have to do before tonight (which I was supposed to do over the weekend, and yes, it HAS to be done before the meeting tomorrow).  I need to do my paid work.  I need to try and dig out my house.

I don't have any more time to be sick.

But Bossy did make me a get well card.  Inside it says "Dear Mom, I hope you feel beetter very soon.  Love Bossy".  I love the misspelled "better" that he crossed out and tried to fix.  And the front was adorned with a picture of the honey we bought yesterday.

  1. His card is really cute. Do feel better. It's overbearing to get sick when you're the one that gets things done. But don't over-stress yourself. They will get done eventually, and they won't kill you. Hope your girlfriend coming over is understanding of the mess. Like you said, it's not like you have much of a choice! Feel better.

    1. How about we both make soup, and then we can both lay on the couch and get better?

  3. I feel your pain... I was there last week, it's REALLY hard! I had 4 kids (3 of them sick) and a husband with pneumonia to take care of while I had a high fever, throat infection, etc... It's not fun or easy! Hoping you get rest & feel better very quickly!! Hugs!!!

    1. I think you had it worse. At least my husband is "well" this week (he was sick before Christmas, and it has lingered)

I have tried to rest today, in hopes that by tomorrow I can actually be a functional person.

  4. That is a very cute card. If it makes you feel better, our house looks like what you described, even when no one is sick. I wonder if you can get your hands on some hot green tea? It might make your tonsils feel better. Maybe something like the PTA meeting can be cut from the schedule. Rest up so you can get 100% better sooner.

    1. I have been drinking tea with honey (as I can tolerate it). Warm definitely seems to help (more than cold).

I have already forewarned PTA that I am sick, and they need to look for someone to take the minutes tomorrow night. I did manage to finish what I had to, so that is done. My girlfriend coming on Thursday is more important to me than PTA, and I would rather rest up for her visit.

      Thanks for the well wishes.

  5. Hope you feel better very soon. It sucks to be sick. Especially when you're a mom with a million things to do. :(
