Whatcha doin?

Happy Friday!

Thank you all for your support regarding my work situation.  I really do know that I deserve better.  It is just easy to fall into what you know.  So here's to breaking the cycle....cheers!

We are trying to send the kids to a Parks and Rec "fun night" tonight....dinner and game night for $5 per kid. It is 5:30-8:00pm.  2.5 hrs of kid free time.  It is our anniversary, and we would like to go to dinner (we even have a gift certificate!).  But when I re-read the information, it is being held at the middle school.  Well, the middle school has an event (talent show) tonight.  So I am not sure if it is still being held.  Fingers crossed.

This weekend is going to be fairly low key.  All the usual day to day things.  No special events or plans.

I may try and work on our taxes.  We have most of the pieces.  I won't be able to finalize, but I can put in what I have, and then just plug in the final numbers when they get here.  Our taxes are pretty straight forward.  I am hoping we still get a refund of some sort....it looks like we made a little more this year than we did previously (increase of my hours and a small raise in September).  We didn't adjust our taxes, so we will see what happens.  I think the changes were so gradual, we didn't think it would make that much of a difference.  Couple that with G-man not having as much overtime as he has in the past, we figured it all sort of balanced out.

Wsup with you all this weekend?

  1. dh installed the tax software on our computer last night. We won't have all the paperwork until the middle of March but like you he will start and plug in what paperwork we do have.

We will be doing more renovating again this weekend as usual and have some errands to run on Saturday afternoon as long as the weather isn't too bad.

Hope you get out for your anniversary dinner tonight.

If you have time pop by to see my latest Miss Nora photo.

    Have a good one!

  2. I would love to get my taxes ASAP, but my PT job has a tendency of sending out W2s at the end of the month. Last day, most likely. I'll get my taxes done as soon as I get those. My weekend may include building up a diaper cake (may be moved to next week if I don't get the ribbons today), or just plain cleaning and laundry. All the fun stuff that comes with life!

    1. I made 2 diaper cakes and a diaper bouquet for a baby shower recently....had so much fun doing it! I wrapped the layers in the blankets as the "fondant".

    2. Haha, never heard of using a blanket as fondant. I normally just layer them. Or roll them, if I'm doing a bassinet type topper. They are a lot of fun to make!

    3. I have a whole post about the baby shower....I need to put the pics in. So you can see what I did. The blanket goes around the sides, and the top is still open. I covered mine in tissue paper shreds.

OK, you just gave me the kick in the pants I needed to finish that post this weekend. So thank you!

  3. I hope you get to go out for your anniversary!

As for us...I just got home from the store. HAD to get groceries...we are supposed to get 6 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow with high winds and wind chills approaching -30, then more snow Sunday into Monday with windchills of -50. That is NOT normal Ohio winter weather. So trying to make sure we have food in the house and diapers. Will go into work later....Going to just lay low this weekend at home and maybe start our taxes. Still waiting for DH W-2 which he will probably get Jan 31, but I have everything else.

  4. I'm working from home, not sure why they even need me in the office daily since I can do everything from home. Other than that I'm thinking of ways I can make $200, looking around the house for things to sell etc.

  6. I'd like to hear more about your debt payoff and what steps you're taking to dig out from your mess. Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I'd really like to hear how that's going.

    1. As I have already said...all of the repayment information is here in the blog if you would like to read about it. I will be updating the numbers next week and give a brief rundown.

    2. Right, but I'm interested in what's going on now and what you're doing to get rid of those debts that are still listed. Specifically the credit card and the car loan, which would seem to be the most logical things to get rid of first since they're smallest.

I know your car situation has been a bit tenuous. Maybe some people here can make suggestions for how you can get rid of the car debt.

As for the credit card, that would definitely be good to get rid of ASAP. I have two myself and they're horrible and totally not worth it.

    3. If you actually read the blog, you would find out that the terms of our debt have fairly high minimums, in order to get rid of them. The retirement loan and car loan listed will both be paid off in 2016.

I appreciate your interest, but after I took my break, I said some things on the blog would change. One of those is the timeline that I share information. Feel free to read the blog....most of it is explained already. Most of the debt is on auto pilot because of the terms of the debt.

I don't need suggestions on getting rid of the debt, but thank you.

    4. I'm sure many people here would like to see you succeed. In the future, if you're still struggling, I hope you can consider the possibility of listening to others who have been successful in paying their debt down.

By the way, thank you for your comment and interest in my blog.

    5. There is a plan in place...it is just working the plan. At the current income level and agreement of what we are willing to do...there isn't more to do. It isn't about listening or not listening....the plan may not be what others would do...but it is there.

    6. If I may, Lisasmoney:
I, like you probably, read that Mysti is doing things like planning an, albeit coupon deal dinner out while her debt lingers and lingers, and wonder why she doesn't take that $ and apply it to the debt. Just as debt can grow little bit by little bit, it can be spent down by an accumulation of many household cost cutting measures. BUT....for the first time since reading this blog, I see her use the phrase "what we are WILLING to do." I take that to mean that she understands that her situation won't change as quickly as it might with other methods we could offer.

  7. I love reading your blog everyday - I still laugh about the suggestion your husband buy a used motorcycle to get to work, that would have worked really well during the polar vortex! I have got rid of most of my credit card and car debt, but will probably be paying the parent loans off for my 3 girls college educations the rest of my life. I was very willing to do it and would not change a thing. Also as for going out to a non discount dinner- I love having my family around the table laughing, talking and having a wonderful evening out. Do we do this often- no, but definitely worth the money and memories.

    1. I don't remember suggesting a motorcycle....but ok.

As for dinner....we had a gift card that covered the entire amount....no out of pocket expense.

I wouldn't even know what a family dinner is....we have never had that....you are lucky.

    2. I think one of the other bloggers suggested the motorcycle thing..just found it a little funny
