I am glad to report that I think my body is starting to get used to getting up earlier. I don't seem to be as "in shock" this morning. And our slightly revised routine of the kids packing lunch in the evening (and I set up the coffee and breakfast stuff) is making for a quieter morning as well.
The kids are enjoying school. They aren't coming home with alot of homework yet, but I am sure in the coming weeks it will increase. But I am thankful to the teachers for not dumping it all on them right away.
After school activities will start in a few weeks. The Gym teacher is running a "cross fit" intramural which we are hoping to send Bossy to. I am not a huge fan of cross fit, but the movement is good for him from a sensory and from a gross motor stance.

I am also "happy" to hear that I am not the only one who uses a paper checkbook register!! I actually find balancing the checkbook soothing....except for the days it is screwed up!!! Luckily that isn't often. I will be moving my routine just a bit to make sure I am checking it everyday, because it just gives me piece of mind. And then I don't have to spend 45 min finding an error.
Because of my error....we are trying for No Spend Days today and Tomorrow (pay day is Wednesday). We both have gas in the car. Food is slim, but manageable. Cats have food. Bills get paid later this week because it has already been worked out that way due to payday. So we can do it.

My weekend (and technically part of Labor Day weekend) was spent cleaning out clutter and reorganizing. The bottom line around here is that we have outgrown this house. Since moving isn't an option....getting rid of stuff is the only way. Making better use of the space we have.
Biggest problem with this project is that it makes a MESS.
And I am also finding out the limitations of what we have....and as I attempt to reuse items that we already own.....alot of them just don't work! Maybe that is why I have so many problems...systems that don't work.

I think Fall weather is officially here. Air conditioners came out yesterday. The kids (on their own) mentioned they need to start wearing warmer PJs and clothes to school. Guess that means I have to find some jeans for Sassy....boy is it tough when you have a kid who is still growing and is TINY in the waist, and LONG in the legs!

Work blew up last week (no fault of my own). But it is a signal that stuff is going to be BAD in the coming months. Really hoping something pans out elsewhere.

G-man is FINALLY making progress on our kitchen table. Lesson learned....furniture refinishing is NOT his bag, baby.
Next on the home projects is supposed to be painting the living room. I think the only way this is going to happen in the timeline we agreed on is if I take a day off of work and WE do it. I like this stuff, so it isn't a problem per se. But we need the money, so I just have to make sure I can make up the time.
And that is what is on my mind this morning. :)
Glad that school has started well for the year. Homework is driving me crazy here!
ReplyDeleteThe mess of clutter-busting is my biggest problem, too. You kind of need a big space to sort everything...but then if you are decluttering to create space it's a Catch 22!
Why don't you just paint the living room on the weekend, or on two nights, or even over several days to not take off work. It may be a pain to do it and draw it out, but money is important, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the kids are enjoying school ... life is so much easier when the kids are happy. We have not received much homework yet, so the kids come home and play or relax.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the jean front! There seem to be a lot of super skinny jeans out this season, so maybe that will work in your favor.
Using the Fly Lady method (flylady.net) try getting rid of clutter fifteen minutes at a time and then stop and take a break. Also, never pull out more stuff than you can put away in under an hour. You can't organize clutter and if you take out more than you can handle it will just get overwhelming. Get three bins (rubbermaids/laundry sorters/boxes)or whatver works for you and have three piles- keep, donate, throw away. When you get to fifteen minutes or when you fill up the bins-stop for a while. The clutter didn't accumulate in a day and it won't disappear in a day either. Also ask for yourself-do I need this or love this? Hope these small tips help!
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with jeans for my daughter. Not sure if you have Kohl's near you but try Paris Blues in longs. They are great for middle school girls. Now that she is older and buys her own clothes she buys them from American Eagle.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has changed here in Ireland.......we are looking at buying a wood burning stove
