UGH....
The kids' new morning routine has also messed up my morning routine. I always checked the checkbook in the morning. For 5 years, that is what I have done. Now I don't have time. Then in the afternoon, I am not thinking about it.
Well, I put a $169 debit in the checkbook register, but somehow didn't actually subtract it. This was about a week ago. If I had been checking the account everyday, like I have been....I would have caught it sooner.
So I am balancing the checkbook. And I got an overdraft fee of $5 (along with the $175 transfer). And couldn't figure out why.
It took me 45 minutes to find the error. GRRRR.
I don't use a spreadsheet or Quicken or any of those for my checkbook. I have tried, and I don't like it. I like paper. I have a binder with checkbook register paper in it, and I love it. It makes me happy.
Payday isn't until Wednesday. GRRRRR. Gonna be a long few days.
Been there, done that :( I am a paper person, too. I think I am the only person to ask for a blank checkbook register at the bank these days. Where did you get register paper for a binder? That sounds like a great idea - I'd like to try it.

DeleteI like the color, so I take the time to print (and ink). But you can photocopy it too.
I do it doublesided and number my pages. And at the end of the year, I will take the paper out, and file it with my tax stuff.
Thanks, Mysti! This is perfect - can't wait to use it!
DeleteThat really stinks. I use paper and pen too. It works for me.
ReplyDeleteI mean, most of the time but I've made errors like this too.
DeleteI love on-line and all that, but for tracking....I really am old skool
DeleteUGH...
ReplyDeleteYep....
DeleteI accidentally double paid the car payment this month. Fortunately I noticed right away, but too late to do anything about it. It's a long 2 1/2 weeks until pay day!
ReplyDeleteI use a regular checkbook register too & I have definitely done what you did. Forgot about an automatic payment that came out ..... or made a payment & forgot to record it ... I've also done the opposite, recorded a payment in my register but never actually MADE the payment - that sucks too LOL.
