Gearing up for the weekend

I can't even tell you how excited I am for the next 4 days!!!

I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner.  It is probably my favorite meal of the year.  The kids have become my trusty helpers and I love that they want to help.  Sassy helped make cranberries last night, and today Bossy and I will make a chocolate pie.  The turkey is in the brine (orange, black tea, and bourbon solution).  I will do more prep later, so tomorrow should be a pretty easy.

I love decorating the house.  Friday is all about the outside of the house.  And it will probably take most of the day.  But G-man and I enjoy it, so it really doesn't seem like work.  We bought more lights this year ($2 a box!), so hopefully the outside will look "fuller" this year.

I am trying to NOT go out into the mess of Black Friday.  However, if I am unable to get one thing on line, I might have to go.  I am not one to scour the ads and make a day of it.  If I do have to go to the store, it will be "in and out."

My goal is to order as many gifts as I can in one shot.  I don't want to get sucked into hours of looking over the coming weeks.  For the most part, I know what I want to get and where to get it.  So, let's just be done.  I would like to have it all here in the coming week, and have it all wrapped and ready to go.  I am making gifts for the teachers and girls at work...and that is going to take time.  So if I am lucky, that stuff will arrive quickly and I can get a jump on it.

I hope everyone else in the US has a wonderful weekend of Gobble Gobble!  And to my friends outside of the US, you can just laugh at us here!

  1. Up here in Canada all the retailers are having Black Friday sales this year.....so no laughing at you guys anymore. I am going through my favourite shopping deals blog and wondering if I should be shopping now to get some deals? I avoid Boxing Day(week)sales because the crowds are INSANE and now here I am tempted to venture out into what will undoubtedly be worse. Thing is with Boxing Day, Christmas is over so I could care less about snagging deals. With Black Friday I could actually save on Christmas. Why didn't Canada do this years ago??? Retailers are just hoping to keep people from cross border shopping now that our dollar is basically on par with yours.

Hope you have a wonderful relaxed Thanksgiving with your family.

  3. I am like you...trying to stay out of stores on black friday. Might need to make a quick run to the grocery store for DD's b-day lunch we decided yesterday we were having on Saturday but that is it. I did the black friday thing years ago and vowed never to do it again. Too many greedy rude people out there for me. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. Happy Thanksgiving! I'm about 75% done with my shopping, & will be at the beach tomorrow/Friday, so definitely will not be shopping. My last few things just need to be ordered.

Hope you have a fabulous holiday with your family.
