Who knows....good idea, bad idea....

G-man and I are trying to work things out.  Lots of bumps in the road, but I am cautiously optimistic that we will come out on the other side of this, for the better.

With that said, WE made a purchase today.....a new computer!

You may remember the computer blew up last year.  For a year, we have been using an OLD laptop (hello...it runs Windows 2000).  And Ole Bessy here is just not cutting it.  It crashes constantly.  Most of the programs are not compatible with today's software.

We had been saving up for a new computer before we decided to reallocate funds and try and fund one thing at a time instead of a little here and a little there.  We had roughly $350 saved up, and figured we would need at least $500, if not closer to $700 for what we wanted.

My brother is an IT specialist, and he came across a sweet deal on a great computer for $370 ($382 with shipping....couldn't find a free shipping code....bummer).  So G-man and I talked about it, and decided to get it.  We were only short $32.  It is a desktop model, with a new keyboard and mouse.  We have a monitor, and will probably upgrade the monitor down the line.  But for now....what we have is fine.

I am hoping our new computer will be here by the end of the week.

It may not have been a great decision given the current status of things.  But it is done.  And it was done with money we had saved up for this purpose, along with a discussion.  So...here we are.

  1. Sounds like a sweet deal. And as for monitors - they are not that expensive. You should be able to pick one up sooner than later.

  2. I am saying prayers for you and your guy. It's gonna be baby-steps, but you can do it, and like you said, come out stronger in the end...

  4. I think it was a great deal. And the fact that it was with money that you guys had already had earmarked for a computer and the fact that you guys talked about before doing it means a lot as well. It sounds like you are making baby-steps and that helps....

  5. I think it's a good deal. We made do with our old computer and old dial-up internet until our oldest started college.

The old computer kept locking up or dying on him and the dial-up took forever when he was doing his homework.

So hubby and I talked and decided to buy a laptop and get faster internet.

Our oldest eventually bought a laptop but now we have son #2 who will be starting college next year, so we're still staying with high-speed internet.

In your case, I think that you can use the computer to research info, read blogs and websites and keep yourself motivated and in-the-know about debt, coupons, how to save money, etc. So I think you made a good choice!
