Look before you leap

I had to stop myself from spending almost $200 on a great deal.  Main reason...I didn't know enough about the deal to insure that the deal was all it was cracked up to be.  (Let's just gloss over the spending of $200.....)

Groupon had a deal this weekend for $89 for $1125 worth of laser hair removal (3 sessions).  You were allowed to buy up to 2 deals, which would have been $178 for 6 sessions, values at $2250.  It was 92% off!!

C'mon....92% off is a GREAT, INCREDIBLE deal!!!!  And I talked about my need for hair removal already (albeit, it is fantasy land and something that I want to do when we have goo gobs of discretionary income).

I didn't go for it though.  In the end, I didn't know enough about the process that I was secure that 6 sessions would have an impact on my life.  What if I got there and they said I needed 50 sessions?  In that case, 6 wouldn't do squat.  A medical consult was $100 (and half would be credited toward the sessions...which confused me).  So I just added another $50-$100 off the bat.

As much as I would LOVE to do this...until I do all my homework, no money will be spent.  I am considering having a consult somewhere (preferably a FREE consult), just to get an idea what I am getting into.  If they said 6 sessions will be enough to do XYZ, and I am happy with that...then if the deal comes back around, I will revisit the idea.

But for now....a-plucking I will go.

  1. Not sure what area you're looking to have done, but I got lifetime on my armpits at ideal image for $750. I believe my bikini line was about the same (it was a gift). And you should never have to pay for an initial consultation for them to tell you if you can do it or not!

  2. I have considered Ideal Image. Glad to hear you were happy with them. I would like to have upper lip, cheeks, chin, and neck done! So I already know that I am looking at quite a bit of coin.

  3. I wouldn't have been able to pass up that deal...no matter how much money we did NOT have!
I'm always so proud of you!!!

  4. @Kathy - thanks! Trust me, it was hard. But just knowing my luck, I would spend $200, and find out that I need to spend $2000 more. So, like I said.....a little more research is required.

  5. Even if you have laser hair removal it will not remove all hair. You have to remember that. You'll have to do a combination of the laser and waxing for a period of time before you actually get rid of it. It should come in less and less and then will be so fine you wouldn't be able to see the hair.

  6. @Jessica - Thanks for the info. Even a lessening would be better than what I deal with now.

  7. I bought a daily deal spending $99 on six treatments of one area. I am getting my upper lip done and the first treatment is Friday.

I'll write a post about it later. It'll be much cheaper than waxing in the long run.

  8. @Bucksome - if my deal was $99 for 6 treatments, I wouldn't have been able to pass that up. Good luck tomorrow...and I can't wait to read about your experience!

  9. Mysti - I so feel your pain on this one...I want and need the same areas done. That is something I plan to do when we get out of debt too...
