28 days and counting

That is the projected moving date, although it is subject to the lease.  Thanksgiving is throwing a bit of a wrench in things, since the moving companies are charging overtime if we get picked up on Black Friday or Saturday.  This means either we need to be picked up before (which shaves 5-6 days off our time to get ready), or after....which is the current plan.  Including today (which as I write this, I still have all day and evening to do stuff), I have 28 days to get everything done.

We had the inspection over the weekend, and thus far we haven't heard anything.  I would assume that if something MAJOR was found, we would have heard.  But until we know that all is well, I can't officially check that off my list.  Next is the appraisal, which has not been scheduled to my knowledge, but I am guessing will be this week.

The kids and I worked on packing yesterday.  It would have been faster for me to just go into their room and do it.  But I need them to be ok with what is happening.  We packed up stuff a year ago, and now both rooms are just about "empty" of anything other than clothes.  Both kids threw out some stuff, and we have a small donation pile (the pile was much larger last year, so I was happy with whatever more they decided on).

I packed some stuff in our bedroom and decorative items from the bathrooms.  There isn't much to pack....we did all of it last year.  I still have some attic stuff to deal with, and I am trying to organize the boxes since there is a chance some of them will go into storage.

We are deciding what stuff we are NOT taking because of age, weight, having to store it.  I was surprised that G-man offered to give up the grill, but it makes sense.  It is 10 years old, needs a new propane tank (which couldn't have been moved anyway), and if we end up in an apartment...it will have to go to storage.  The cost to move it and store it is almost as much as a new one....so once we are able to have a grill again, we will just get a new one.  Next fall when they are all on clearance we can get a new one and just put it in Mom and Dad's garage for a few months.

Meanwhile, we found an apartment and were THIS CLOSE to applying when a single family house came available.  Once G-man is able to see the house, we will apply for one of the two.  The rent on the house is less than $100 more than the apartment (and both are $200-$300 less than our house!), but offers much more space (2,250 sq ft for the house).  Plus we would be able to store anything we needed in the garage instead of having to get a storage unit.  I will feel better when we have a signed lease for something.

I have a ton of phone calls to make, and today is one of those days I wish I had paid time off and would schedule a day this week to take off.

I have a master binder where I am keeping all of my information, receipts, etc.  I am glad I have it.  I looked up all the phone numbers for utilities, schools, etc last year.  So when I need to call...I have the number and a place to write all my information.

My girlfriend invited us for Thanksgiving.  Very sweet.  I had planned on just going out, but this will be so much better.  An afternoon of wine and good company.  A fitting way to close this chapter of our lives.

In case it sounds like I have this all under control....I am so freaked out it isn't funny.  I am in a perpetual state of anxiety.  My stomach is all in knots, and I have been barely eating.  I force myself, since I know I need the energy.

Major goals for the early part of the week:  Make at least one more appointment to interview movers (one interview done, 1 scheduled for Thursday), call real estate attorneys, apply for new housing.

Major goals for later in the week:  Figure out registration for school (there is an on-line half, and then you need an appointment for other stuff), figure out transportation for G-man

    1. Honestly, I can't get past the anxiety of so many unknowns to be excited. I will get there, but not there yet.

  6. Girl, you have this! You seem a lot like me in the fact that you freak out, but it all comes together from sheer will and organization. Even though you might think you are not organized - YOU ARE! I am beyond excited for you!
