Maybe cleaning will help

I won't bore you with my whining about our old, yucky stuff.  You already know.  Our stuff is old, and needs to be replaced.

Periodically, I get this need to deep clean our house.  And I am in that stage right now.  I convince myself that for the price of some elbow grease, everything will magically become better.  Or at least for the amount of time it lasts before the younger set of people who live here see fit to undo what I did.

I am taking tomorrow off from work (and I know this will jinx myself today) since it has been a quiet week.  As soon as the kids' feet cross the threshold of the house to leave for camp, I will spring into action.  All of the furniture gets emptied from the living room, bringing it back to empty state.  I clean top to bottom....so the crown molding will get dusted and washed (as will the baseboards when I get to them).  Walls get washed.  Windows (and blinds and trim) washed.  The floor will get swept, then washed (on hands and knees) with vinegar.

Repeat in Playroom, and in Kitchen.  If I can get through it all before the kids get home from camp (I will have about 7 hrs), it will be a miracle.

I really hope that watching all the dirt wash away will give me the boost I need to stop thinking about how much I want to replace everything.

Off to check my vinegar supply!!!

  1. That will be fantastic! I am actually writing stuff down that I want to do when DD gets back to school & going through room by room is on my list :)

  2. I'm the same way. Somehow I feel if the kitchen floor is spotless it won't matter that the linoleum is peeling away. Hope you get everything done in 7 hours. Seems like a lot of time but when you're cleaning it flies by.

  4. You go, Mysti! I agree that giving things a bit of shine makes you reconsider, or at least stall off the desire to replace them. I should do that with my car, since I am so not in love with it. Coincidence that it looks like something the cat dragged in? Possibly.
