I recently read the book Save Karyn: One Shopaholic's Journey to Debt and Back by Karyn Bosnak. (I checked it out from the library!!!)
It was a cute book. Easy read. Very light hearted and easy to relate to (in a frivolous way).
Karyn was in her late twenties and moved from Chicago to New York to start a new job. While I think some of her shopping tendencies were already there, they exploded once she moved. In an attempt to live the New York life style...she tried to BUY the lifestyle.
Quickly, her shopping ways started to spiral out of control. Between clothes, eating out, furnishing a new apartment....she justified her purchases in one way or another. She soon discovered that she could not pay off her Amex card each month....and devised a way to cheat the system.
Eventually she found herself $25,000 in debt, and wasn't sure how to get out. She was robbing Peter to pay Paul. So she devised a plan....to ask for help. This book was set in 2001-2002, when blogging and websites were not as personalized as they are today. And the idea that she had...well....probably wouldn't work today.
She started a website SaveKaryn.com. And asked people to send her money to pay off her debt!!!! You will have to read the book to find out if her plan worked.
If you are looking for a book that you can quickly finish....giggle at....and relate to....check it out! Ms. Bosnak currently runs Pretty In The City, and has authored What's Your Number (recently made into a movie; and previously known as 20 Times A Lady).

I remember coming across Karyns original blog, it was after she'd paid off the debt and I read almost all of it. It's a great read and it's amazing how much her readers supported her.
