I applied for a full time job a few weeks ago. And that seems to be as far as it will go.
They have an on-line system where you can monitor the status of your application. It has said "review in progress" since 8/22. There is NO phone number ANYWHERE to call about the status. Only an e-mail. So I e-mailed them and got an auto response that said if you are checking on the status of your application....we will contact you if you are a candidate.
Don't call us....we'll call you.
While I would really like to think that being a position with an academic institution....maybe they are just busy getting ready and implementing the beginning of the school year? But on the flip side...wouldn't they want someone in the position ASAP, since it IS the beginning of the year?
Anyway, I don't think they are interested. I would rather them change the status to something that reflects that, just so I could put it to bed in my head. Something like "did not meet qualifications." Done. But I am stuck in "review" limbo.
I am not holding my breath. I am a little bummed. It isn't like this is the first job I have applied for that they weren't interested. But I KNOW I can do this job, and do it well. The hours and the location are perfect for me. Oh well.
I am still going to look for a full time job. I know my current boss is going to be upset when I leave. But we are running out of options. Considering gas, child care, clothing expenses....I know roughly where a salary range has to be for us to make some progress. And I know that won't be happening at my current job (even though the flexibility I have is sooooo awesome).
I am not desperate where I need to apply for everything and anything. But I need to start looking.
I am concerned that I am overwhelmed now...and adding in another 20 hrs of work might tip the scale. But I am really hoping that it will just be a matter of scheduling and routine. We will see.
But for now.....no new job for me, I guess.
Sorry. You'll find something better though!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this! What about going into the school directly? Things are wild right now with the beginning of a new year and I know people who have secured jobs by going in-person to drop off a resume. It's worth a shot; good luck!
ReplyDeleteSorry... believe me this happens to everybody, yes you can do the job but when there's 300 applicants per job it's very hard to stand out. I can't tell you how many calls and interviews I've had over the past year yet I'm still stuck in the same job without a raise..
ReplyDeleteKeep trying, it's like IVF lol... it will come ;)

I believe things happen for a reason. I am sorry you are sad, but either this job will become available for you or you will find something even better.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, I have a job at a university. It took MONTHS. I mean I applied in March and started in August. I was stuck in review limbo too and had given up and suddenly got a call in like May or June. Keep looking but don't give up ALL hope.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. I am looking for a part-time job to supplement my income, but so far nothing I have found works with my regular job schedule. sigh....
ReplyDeleteJust keep trying its pretty much all you can do right now. There are just so many people as so few jobs, but eventually something will happen
ReplyDeleteJudy
It took 2.5 years for the community college I applied to teach part time at to call & hire me. Like mutantsupermodel said, keep looking but don't give up ALL hope.
ReplyDeleteSeriously??? This is how they run things?
ReplyDeleteNo wonder they have vacancies!
