I found the culprit!!!

We get a water/sewer bill every 6 months (May and November).  It is generally about $180 in May, and $225 in November (thanks to summer water usage).  So that is what I budgeted for.

When the bill arrived and it was $350, I choked.  WHAT????  How is our bill almost 50% higher????

The only real difference in our water usage is that the kids now shower themselves.  We regulate the temperature for them, and then they do the rest.  Bossy is pretty much a "get in, get out" kind of kid.  And Sassy.....

*sigh*

I am now realizing how LONG Sassy is taking in the shower!!!  I helped Bossy dry off....Sassy got in....and I walked out.  I went downstairs, did a few things....and about 20 min later realized she was still in there!

Good grief, child.  You are only 4'3".  How long can it take to wash your hair and body??  You aren't even shaving yet!!

So now I am looking for a waterproof timer for the shower.  They will get 6 minutes each.  No more 20 minute soaking showers.   A 50% increase in water usage is just not cool.

  1. I feel your pain, I started using the kitchen timer for our three kids, 5 minutes, that's it. I even started using it for myself, I have a tendency to zone out.

  2. Daaaaang, Sassy! :-/ I like standing in really hot water for a couple minutes just to relax, but even I don't stay in there for longer than 10 minutes. And I shave!

Good luck regulating their shower time! My mom never had that problem with us. All three of her kids were get in, get out kinda kids! :)
