GBU- July 25, 2010

I have to say....this week has been really stressful on a personal level, but incredibly rewarding and will probably go down in the ole memory as a pretty good week.

The Good:  Oh, where to begin!!  How many people are able to say they have so many good things in their life?

1)  Lending Club loan is going great!  We are up to $11,675/$13,600 funded (about 85%).  We still have 8 more days for the loan to fully fund, but we are hopeful that within the next 2 days we will be there.  We have been so pleased at this decision and the process.  I would like to invest myself once we get a little further down the debt repayment road.  The fact that 204 people (some of you included!) think we are a worthy investment really renews your faith in Humanity.

2) Holding strong on the bookcase.  I still love it....but it isn't the right time.  Slow and steady wins the race.

3)  I guess this is technically a day early....and it will have it's own entry, but I am just so excited.  Tomorrow, I will pay off Hospital Bill #1.  :)

The Bad:  This one is easy.  The dining out on Wednesday when the power went out.  I know in the grand scheme of things, it isn't horrible.  But I am disappointed that we didn't make it through the month.  Yeah, we had our $9 in coffee....but I really thought we would make it.

The Ugly:  We had a party yesterday.  Our house is 100 years old, so we decided to celebrate.  A good time was had by all!  We have a ton of food left over, but it is ok.  Some will be dinner tonight and this week. Some will get frozen.

And some things are getting returned.....namely......slider rolls!  OMG.  We had planned on chicken and pulled pork sliders, and bought 10 packages of rolls, at $3.79 each (which we messed up on the budget for the party....we thought the package had 24, and it had 12...so we had to buy twice as much).  Well, the rolls were hardly touched.  The food....no problem, but most people just ate off the plate. We have at least 8 packages left.  I saved the receipts, so they will go back.

Unfortunately, we can't return the alcohol. The 1/4 keg was a big hit, and that would have been enough.  But we weren't sure if everyone would want beer, so we also bought a few other things.....that went completely untouched.  Oh well.  It will get drank eventually.

How about you all???  What are your GBUs?

  1. You're doing the right thing in not buying the book case now. Just forget about it and time will bring the right solution--whether it's that one or another one.

  2. Good: Sold a set of books on ebay for $42.50! Have a couple of paintings up now, hoping for another sale.

Bad: Car inspection is iffy. We might need a new exhaust. Hoping it will pass anyway.

Ugly: Start up costs for substitute teaching is ugly every year. Clearances, physicals and a required class are costing us about $200. Damn. And it takes a good month to six weeks to get paid after I work each month.

  3. Good: I was able to put some extra money on the high interest credit card this month.

Bad: My favorite pair black shoes finally died on me, and I had to go buy a new pair.

Ugly: My daughter's desktop computer took a dump, and so I bit the bullet and bought her a new laptop (she's starting high school this month)

  4. @Bucksome - my bookcase appears to be gone. I know I did the right thing, but I am a bit sad.

@Jan - Good for you on Ebay. I haven't sold anything there, but have been thinking about it. Hope that the car passes!

@Rhitter - I hate when my favorite shoes bite it. Hope the replacements become the new fav. And bummer on the computer. I am hoping that our lap top lasts us for a bit since our desk top also has crossed over into the great beyond.
