Wrong Line

Oops.

When I was paying bills on line from my checking account, I accidentally sent a payment to the the wrong place!  I just looked at my checking account on line and there it is...

I looked at the payment history, and yep, I did it.  I meant to send the payment to the next one down.

Oops.

Luckily, it wasn't a large payment or something that was due RIGHT NOW.  So I sent a payment to the correct location, and now we have a $30 credit on our Lowe's credit card that had a zero balance (we got the card when we bought the oven so we could get the discount....and then went home and paid it off with money from our emergency fund).

I guess we just pre-paid for something that we will need in the future.....fertilizer for the lawn, a few plants for the flower beds (even though we are at least a month away from being able to plant!).  Packing tape, cleaning supplies.  Something.

It won't go to waste.  But *sigh*.

  1. You could call them and they would refund it to you.

    1. I could....and if it were something I wasn't going to use in the nearer future. ...I would. But like I said...there is stuff that will need to be purchased anyway.

  2. You can ask for a refund check, and they'll send it. I know you may say it's not worth the trouble, but it's a solution. It's not a really big problem, but just an annoyance. (I did this recently, but the hubs found a way to buy things he was going to buy anyway - it was an Amazon card and that was easy to spend.)

The seriously annoying time I did this, I had little money to pay the monthly bills, and I paid the gas and electric company an extra $400. Now THAT was inconvenient. No refund on that; just a month or so paid in advance, and a lot of juggling to do.

    1. Yep....it is a solution. But I don't really have a true problem. Just an annoyance, like you said. If it were a $400 payment....that would be a problem. But this was $30.

    2. Maybe I'm reading too much in, but you said "sigh." Then your reply sounds snippy, and your replies to various people often sound snippy. Then again, I could be misreading, since tone does not come through in print. In the past I've had to change my attitude about things. I completely understand venting, but it seems like this is such a minor thing, not worth complaining about. OR - if you want to complain about it, just finding an immediate solution. If it were me, I might want to spend the credit immediately, so I wouldn't worry about forgetting it's there, or feel like they're "holding my money." Example: Did you want to buy a rug or some other knickknack to make the house look even better that it already does? Is there some household supply (trash bags or something) that you can stock up on? I'm sure you'll take offense to everything I've just said, but I was wondering if you might benefit from trying to find solutions (that's more constructive than just saying "be positive."). Then you can turn your annoyance into a good feeling very quickly.

    3. You are reading way more into the post...and into my responses. I didn't post this as a problem....why must everything be a problem? It was an anecdotal story. I made a boo boo. I shared my boo boo. That is all.

The credit will probably be spent next week when G-man is home...like I said....fertilizer or something. We go to Lowe's frequently in the spring. ...so it really isn't an issue.

But I am not taking a trip there for the sake of spending the money right this second. I am on my own...I don't have time for it.

You have always found my style snippy...which is fine if that is what you think. It just makes me wonder why you read and comment then. Take that as you will. I just don't understand.

    4. That must be my mistake in misreading, then. I guess it's just a difference in style. I'd like to see you be happy, by doing something like stocking up (I was going to say buying T.P. and paper towels, which is something we run out of and I hate going to the store for, so it would be awesome to stock up and not have to think about it. But I don't think they sell those at Lowes.) You know - turning something negative into a positive. I like to see your positive posts. But life isn't positive every day, I get it.

  3. back in the day when I used to pay all of my bills by check once a month, I made the mistake of switching the amounts on two checks. There was a very significant difference and it took me days to get the money back from one of the companies. I can't remember all the details, but I know it was over a thousand dollars that I had to get back right away. It was horrible, & I did not have that money to spare. I'm glad this is just $30 for you!

  4. I think everyone makes a mistake like that now and then. It happens. Thankfully it was a small mistake and you said you are going to use it anyways in the next month or so. I know it can be annoying, but mistakes happen.

  5. Mysti, I agree with the way you are handling it since Spring is here and there will definitely be things to purchase for outdoor maintenance. I agree with you, thankfully it's only thirty bucks! Think of it as purchasing an extra gift card! Hope you get some nibbles on the house as the warmer weather arrives! And I hope you and the kids enjoy time with Gman!

  7. With all you have going on it's not surprising you had an oops! I'm like you, for that amount I'd just leave it there and spend it next time I needed something there. At least you realized the mistake, instead of wondering a month down the road what the heck happened! Just think of it as a deposit to "home maintenance" savings :)

  8. I have switched up my bills before.

  9. In Canada you have until 6 PM to reverse any bill payments (the money is forwarded overnight). I'm going to assume you have the same/similar rules in the US. It's probably too late for this one, but next time just call your bank's telephone banking line and get them to reverse it.

  10. I too have done it as well. As you said it wasn't a huge amount an you can buy all sorts at Lowes.

  11. I have done the same thing more than once. Annoying and inconvenient to be sure.

  12. I think everybody that uses online bill pay as done something like this, last month I pay my life insurance bill, and invert 2 numbers instead of 289 I paid 298, they sent in a check a week later for 9 dollars, and for some reason I always over pay my water bill.

  13. OMG, I've done that before! Only with the Verizon bill vs. the Verizon Wireless bill. CRAZY. Glad it wasn't too expensive! :)!

  14. Ugh ... done that too. BUT you have so much going on right now, it's totally understandable! At least it was just a few dollars :)
