Loose Ends

Thought I would take a moment to let you know how we have tied up all the loose ends we have (had?).  Today's version is brought to you by the letter "F."

Friends.  Thank you all for the warm wishes yesterday on my blogiversary.  Three years and being right back where you started is humbling.  I appreciate all the comments you give me every day....the good and the bad.

Furniture.  The final decision was made.  We can't do it right now. The loveseat is still usable (despite the breakage).  The couch is hanging in there.  As long as the slipcovers are on...it is tolerable.  No sense in buying anything that we won't really want.  We weren't able to look at the original set we were interested in (apparently only select stores carry it in the store, and the closest to us is Manhattan!).  We looked at a few other things, and G-man fell in love with one set.  As much as I like the set, I am not 100% it is the right one (may be too "big" looking).  The other option we were looking at is sort of in limbo.  The on-line design tool won't let us price out what we want, so we will have to go into the store and have them do it for it.

Bottom line....Not now.  We will save up, and I am willing to put no more than we can pay off in less than a year on a CC.  So it will have to wait.  I am less bummed than I thought I would be.  I want to be able to enjoy new furniture...not sit there and wonder how we are going to pay for it.

Flying to Mom.  We have decided IF we go, we will fly.  Once we worked out gas, tolls, food (even bringing from home has a cost), and pet care (we factored in boarding the cats, JUST IN CASE we can't find someone to come over and feed them), the difference was less than $200.  For $200, to not have to be in the car for 30 hrs round trip.....sold.  Now we have to actually make the decision and book the trip.

And last but not least.....

Finishing Bossy's Room.  OK, I have a post worked out....I just need to add a few more pictures.  After all the build up....I have a feeling you will be disappointed.  I read several home organization/decorating sites...and trust me....his room does NOT look like their rooms!

Did I forget anything?????

  1. I can completely relate to the fly vs drive. I did not account for tolls, so if I had, I would've probably picked flying over 32hrs roundtrip myself!

    1. The tolls have killed us the last few times we have driven to see family. When G-man went to visit his mom in February, it was something like $70 just for tolls.

  2. Flying definitely over driving. My parents moved 10 hours south of me last year and I just can't do the driving thing. (Having fibromyalgia does NOT help this situation!)

Good decision on the furniture. I bought all new family room furniture one month before I got let go from my job. I wish they had let me go a month earlier because I never would have bought the new furniture if I knew I wouldn't be working to pay for it.

I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed in your decorating. Our house is still a mish mash of stuff after 24 years of marriage because neither one of us is a professional designer. I just throw stuff up on the walls and hope it looks homey.

    1. I am not saying we would always fly to Mom's, but this time....yes. Furniture....it is disappointing right now, but we will get over it.

    Exactly.....words of wisdom! ;-)

Sorry I didn't get over here yesterday to say Happy Blogiversary.

  4. Looks like you have everything figured out!! :) What if instead of slapping it on a cc & paying it off in a year, you save up for a year then buy what you love? Then you'd be in the free & clear with it!!! :)

    1. I should clarify...it is going to take us a long time to save for this furniture (I am estimating at least 2-3 years). I agreed when when we have enough saved (in cash) to the point where we would have roughly a year left to save to get the to the total, we would do it. So we would only be putting a small part on the CC.

I am not 100% the furniture will make it that far, but we will try.
