Our day yesterday started off badly for more reasons than I care to type. But the kids had a field trip, and since they usually purchase milk at school, we didn't have anything to send them with. We have plenty of refillable water bottles, but the school specifically asked parents NOT to send anything that the child would have to bring home. Disposable all the way.
G-man ran over to the store to get drinks (after having to come back because he forgot his wallet). He got them each a bottle of water (while much healthier for the kids....$$$). $3.48 for water.
Then he decided to take a vacation night last night (this is a whole other issue). So he picked up 2 pre-made pizzas for he and the kids, and soup for me (I am trying to get over the lovely virus that my kids had last week). $21.77. Can I get a collective groan???
And THEN after dinner....he realized that we were out of turkey for Bossy's lunch (one of the only things he will eat for lunch). But this time Bossy said he wanted pepperoni for lunch (yeah....we are that family. But when you have a kid who has a feeding tube, you feed him what he is willing to eat).
So he made the third trip to the store for the day....and purchased pepperoni, pears, Ritz crackers (another Bossy food), and glazed donuts (um, can you say impulse purchase???). Not sure on the price, as he already lost the receipt, and it hasn't cleared our checking account yet (don't worry, as soon as the bank opens for the day, it will show up). Estimated cost: $12.
That is $37.25 spent on NOTHING. Poor planning hits again!!!!
I decided when my parents come to visit, I am putting my mom to work. I am going to bulk cook, and make ask her nicely to help chop stuff so I can do freezer cooking.
But since you are so concerned (I can tell through the interwebs....), I am feeling better today. Thanks for asking.
The unplanned purchases will get you every time! Believe me, I know --- my life has been a series of unplanned purchases lately!
ReplyDeleteWe have our fair share of unplanned purchases...but a little forethought would have resulted in ONE trip....not 3!
DeleteI think that getting over a sickness is one of the easiest ways to get into this black hole of spending. You're already not feeling well and it's just too much bother to plan or think things out. I've been there many times! Glad you're on your way to feeling much better.
ReplyDeleteI had to fight the urge to buy dinner. I came home and made pasta. Do I get a high five?
DeleteI swear, I don't think anymore junk can come out of me.
Hope you feel b-- oh. You're welcome. (I'm kidding), but yeah. That sounds like a rough day. I would rather run 5 miles than have to go to the grocery store more than once in a day, so I feel your pain. Those unplanned purchases are SO expensive! I've seen that happen when I go to a store without a shopping list. It's such a money sinkhole.
ReplyDeleteI think that the water annoyed me the most. He could have gotten a 10 pack of juice boxes for $1.50! But spent more than 2x that on 2 bottles of water that the kids probably only drank a third of each.
DeleteEh that happens to me all the time, running back and forth to the grocery store because I forgot or didn't think of something. Funny sometimes even when I have a clear list I will overlook something and have to drive back... Its definitely a money drainer.
ReplyDeleteWe are guilty because G-man works part time at the grocery store...so it is sooooo easy to pick stuff up on an as needed basis.
DeleteI have these days especially when I am busy and the kids are home. Hope you feel better.
