Federal government shutdown

With the shut down looming....I just want to throw my hands up and quit.

G-man is considered "essential" personnel...so he would continue to go to work.  But, not get paid.  At least not until the budget is worked out.  Yes, that would be back pay...but we could go a month or more without a paycheck coming in.

We have the money from the refi that is just sitting there....so we have SOMETHING.  But wanna talk about huge wrench in plans!!!!

Oh, and we haven't done our taxes yet (that is on the the docket for this weekend).  We know we will owe some State, and have a small Federal refund....but of course that won't get processed.

Time to go into mega-survival mode.

  3. Saying prayers there won't be a shut-down. I am so astounded that they can actually do this. Hang in there!

  4. You will be okay. I know this is hard. But you have a roof over your head, food to eat, clothes to wear, wonderful people who love you. This is an aggravation. Keep up the fight. Love your blog!

  6. It astounds me that not paying military is even an option while we have troops deployed. Congress should be lined up to hand over their paychecks to those who don't deserve to go without. I'm glad you have some reserves to draw on for a bit. Hang in there!

  7. You know, people should not be shocked about this. This is the congress that let our economy take a dive. They could have prevented it, but did nothing.

  8. @Rhitter - I don't think people are shocked. I think that they expect the gov't to live within their means....but they can't do it themselves.

  9. Hi,
I've been a quiet blog stalker and found your's from Kari's at Coffee Catharsis. Anyhow, my hubby is considered 'essential' personnel and has to work without pay if the government shuts down. We went thru this in 1995, but we didnt' have the 4 kids then or the huge mortgage we have now. We are waiting for our tax refund which would really help us out if the pay is slow in getting paid back, but I guess we'll suck it up. Since getting transferred here 7 years ago we've learned to rely on just the two of us since we don't have any family within 1000 miles. I've got fingers and toes crossed that they work it out by tomorrow night! Gulp.

  10. My husband is currently deployed. I am glad we have some savings to help us out, but if it does happen I hope it's a very short time period. I know for us being active duty we will get 8 days of pay on the 15th. Hopefully they get some common sense tonight.

  11. Here's hoping that they are able to reach an agreement that doesn't lead to furloughs (or to 'essential' employees forced to work without pay). It's a bad situation all around, and here's hoping that some resolution can be reached soon.
