More car problems

I swear....we have more than our share of car issues.  We have enough car things to cover all our friends...their spouses....and maybe their kids!!

Saturday evening, we decided to take the kids to dinner (some assemblance of  a "family").  G-man was leaving on Sunday for a business trip, so he took Saturday off to spend with the kids.  His car worked fine all day.  Maybe it was the poison air between us....maybe it was karma....who knows....but....

His car wouldn't go into gear!  We pulled out of the driveway, and were in the middle of the street...and nada.  He tried R, D, N....nothing.  1, 2, 3.....Nothing.  After fighting with it for several minutes, it finally went into gear with a rather loud jolt and THUD.

Since he was leaving anyway, we decided to drop his car off that night at the shop, and we will pick it up next weekend.  We are hoping that it is just a valve or something.  His car is a 2004..so not THAT old.  It has already had some transmission work in the past, but that was under warranty.

Hopefully the shop will call us today and tell us what the issue is and that it won't be thousands of dollars to fix.  I will let you know!!!

C'mon Universe.....you gotta cut us some slack!!!!

ETA:  Well CRAP!!!!!  The car needs a new transmission.  They are still working up the price.  G-man is guessing about $2,000.  He and I will talk about it tonight....part of me says this car is a lemon, and it is time to move on.  But we still owe $3400 on the car.  This is sooooo not what we needed right now.

  1. People always say "God doesn't give you more than you can handle." Sometimes, I think God believes we're much stronger than we really are. How are you not sitting on the ground in a puddle of tears screaming at the universe to stop because you want to get off? Geez Louise!

  2. @Gina - who says I am not sitting in a puddle of tears??? Actually, I am angry. Angry that on top of everything else...now this. And that the money that we were supposed to use to pay debt...that then got put aside due to the situation....will now probably get eaten up on this.

I am getting close to my breaking point.

  3. So sorry to hear that! I second what Gina said. I was thinking the same thing right before I saw her comment. I'm sorry that you are going through such a trying time. It seems like it is always something and it's so hard not to just sit there and say "WHY ME!?!?" You think to yourself, "I do everything right or at least try to do everything right, so why me? What did I do to deserve this?"
It's definitely a true test of character. Don't give up and don't lose hope. :)There are plenty of us in the blogworld still rooting for you and your family.
Good luck and I hope happy days will be coming for you and your family soon.
And if it makes you feel better-with five cars and five people in my family-not a month goes by without it seeming like one car or another is in the shop! :)

  4. I totally understand! I am partially in debt because of my LEMON saturn. Some cars are just lemons......my advice is to cut your losses and get something else. I paid $14,000 for my Saturn, spent over $10,000 in repairs in the first 5 years. With three months to go to pay it off it died and I said ENOUGH! I have a Honda CRV that I love--I have had it for eight years and have had no repairs, just general maintenance.

  5. We are still waiting to hear the final price. But we are also looking at another used vehicle. I found some on Craigslist for under $3000 that may work for a few years.

I hate car issues....I hate that this is happening now. I hate that the money we were supposed to use for debt is being diverted.

  6. Ah man, I am sorry to hear about the Car. Now of all freaking times? At the very least as he been less whiney and bitchy?

  7. @Evan - there is always something wrong around here. The Karma bus just hits us head on. To answer your question....no, he is still whiny. Considering the situation...and he hasn't been living home for a month....it is rather annoying.
