I hope this isn't how the whole thing goes

The destruction make-over of Bossy's room has begun.  I started emptying his room the other day when I was home with him.  I am purging ALOT of stuff.  The child doesn't need 2 million Happy Meal toys.  Other items are being pared down, and good riddens.

G-man took down the crown moulding, and fortunately, only one piece was damaged (and we should be able to cover it up).  He even remembered to label the pieces so we can put it all back up correctly!  We will be painting it while it is down, which is MUCH easier.

All of this sounds good, right?  Well, we hit a MAJOR snafu yesterday.

I went to order the carpet.  We had previously picked it out (albeit awhile ago).  I was going down to the store to arrange for them to come out and measure, and actually order the carpet.  It is about a 2 week turnaround time for it to come in.

The kids and I drove to the store....to find out it WAS OUT OF BUSINESS.  It was weird....EVERYTHING was gone.  The FLOOR was gone...it was just concrete.  Empty as empty can be.

Well, Eff.

There is another store that should have it, but their hours BITE.  I will have to go down tomorrow and take care of it.  And this is assuming they actually have the carpet.  If they don't, we have to pick all new carpet.  If this store also has a 2 week lag time, we are looking at the weekend of June 8 that it will come in.  Then we have to have the carpet installed.  That week....the kids have a field trip that we are chaperoning, Field Day, a PTA meeting, and a few other miscellaneous things.

Not a good week.

But we HAVE to figure it out, as my son's stuff will be all over our house until we can reload his room.  Oh, and my parents are coming on June 19.  We are cutting it close!!!

Wish us luck....

  1. If you have a Home Depot or such nearby you can also look for a remnant since it is only one room. It is a really inexpensive way to buy a piece of carpet and you might get lucky and find what you need.

  2. Actually you can ask any carpet store about seeing what they have in remnants, not just Home Depot. :)

    1. We tried the reminant route, and it was actually the same price. By the time you added in padding, installing (we want it installed, not just tuck it under the baseboard)...it was the same. And actually HD didn't have the carpet we wanted anyway.

If we can't get what we want, we will go to HD or Lowes and have to pick something else.

  3. Mysti, we got awesome carpeting from Lowe's for my son's room after our cat died all over the original carpeting and we couldn't get the smell out. (Urine smell in teenage boy's room - EWWW). I highly recommend it and you can usually get it within 10 days to 2 weeks. Good luck!

    1. Lowe's has free installation right now for Stainmaster. But it is still coming out at the same price as the other carpet.

  5. Go you! So busy. And wow, you’d think they’d let you know about the store being closed ahead of time. Guess that wasn’t amongst their top concerns. Hope you can pick up the carpet tomorrow with no issues. June 19th will be here before you know it! I’m sure you’ll have it all wrapped up and looking pretty, even if it has to be at the 11th hour. Good luck!

    1. The store had no obligation to us. We picked it out, but hadn't ordered it yet. I guess we waited too long!

  8. I wish you lived nearby, our interior design dept. is getting rid of a ton of carpet tiles. There was litterally a room full of the things. I took a truck load to the Habitat for Humanity store earlier. Carpet tiles are particularly nice with kids because they can easily be replaced in sections when the inevitable messes happen. I'm thinking of carpeting my garage with what we still have on hand.

  9. The price really adds up with underlay and installation! Well once it's in it's done for a long time. The thought of replacing our main floor makes me shudder! Someday hardwood...a girl can dream right?
